Chief Meteorologist George Flickinger of ABC 13 - WSET gives us the details:
I’ve raised most forecast totals by 1” compared to yesterday’s map.
Two reasons I’ve raised the forecast amounts: 1) Low looks stronger, 2) Snow is moving in sooner— the snow will fall during coldest part of day, reducing melting.
I have 2” to 4” for many of us. It’s possible for a few 5” stripes within the 2” to 4” zone! A few 6” totals are possible in the 3” to 5” range. Totals under 2" more likely near VA/NC border.
Heaviest snow ends about Friday 9am (ish), though you could observe a few more hours of light snow/flurries. Afternoon should be dry.
Snow should stick immediately! Snow would stick to pavement/roads and grass. Temperatures hovering around 25 degrees during the onset of snow.
Temperatures should remain in the 20s to near 30 on Friday morning.
I doubt any school will be open Friday! Snow would be on the ground and falling during morning bus route time.
Little melting occurs Friday.
Saturday reaches the 40s.
