LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — In the 51st running of the Virginia Ten Miler, 30-year-old Athanas Kioko from Winston Salem, North Carolina, takes the first-place finisher's medal back home to the Tar Heel state.
With a chip time of 48:14, Kioko beat his main competition, Peter Mwaniki Njeru, by about 7 seconds across the start/finish line.
Sam Chelanga from Fayetteville, North Carolina, came across third.
Nicholas Rugut from Wailuku, Hawaii, came across fourth.
Ali Abdilmana rounds out your top 5 from Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
All the top 5 finishers had chip times under 50 minutes.
Werkuha Getachewali from North Carolina was the top female finisher with a chip time of 54:53.
In the Virginia 4+ Mile Race, Travis Booker from Midlothian finished first with a chip time of 24:18.
As far as local finishers, Jacob Coccia from Roanoke was the highest finishing local. He placed 24th overall with a chip time of 57:11.
Right behind him was Jack Tidball from Bedford, who clocked in with a time of 57:22.
