Two Major League Baseball teams completed a trade in the middle of their game against each other.

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced they were trading minor league outfielder Steward Berroa to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for cash considerations shortly after the first pitch was thrown in Wednesday's (July 9) game at American Family Field. Several fans joked that Berroa, 26, would walk from one dugout to the other, ignoring the fact that he was actually with the Dodgers' Triple-A team, the Oklahoma City Comets, at the time of the trade.

The Dominican prospect was previously traded to the Dodgers by the Toronto Blue Jays in May, having spent his entire time with the franchise on Triple-A Oklahoma City. Berroa was hitting for a .330 average with 11 RBIs in 97 at-bats prior to being traded to the Brewers, who immediately assigned him to the Triple-A Nashville Sounds and placed him on the IL due to right shoulder bursitis, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy.

The Brewers defeated the Dodgers, 3-2, in 10 innings on Wednesday, sweeping the defending World Series champions and the National League's current best team in their three-game series. The mid-game trade between opponents is rare, but has previously occurred several times, including between the Blue Jays and Houston Astros in 2016, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Texas Rangers in 2018 and the Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox in 2024.
