Natural Acne Remedies That Actually Work: A Pharmacist’s Guide

Acne is one of the most common skin concerns, affecting up to 95% of people between the ages of 11 and 30. For some, it continues well into adulthood. With so many products on the market, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. But what if the solution could be found in your kitchen or bathroom cabinet?

We spoke with George Sandhu, Deputy Pharmacy Superintendent at Well Pharmacy Online Doctor, who shared his top natural, science-backed remedies to help manage acne—especially for those with mild to moderate breakouts.

🌿 Why Go Natural?

“Many people are seeking gentler alternatives to manage their acne,” says Sandhu. “Natural remedies can be a great complement to prescription treatments.”

While severe acne often requires medical intervention, natural remedies can support healing and reduce inflammation without harsh side effects. But remember: consistency is key.

🧼 Daily Habits That Make a Difference

✅ Wash Your Face Twice Daily

Use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser with lukewarm water. Avoid hot water, which strips natural oils, and steer clear of alcohol-based products that can irritate your skin.

❌ Don’t Pop Pimples

Squeezing spots can push bacteria deeper, cause inflammation, and lead to scarring. Let your skin heal naturally.

🛏️ Change Pillowcases Weekly

Pillowcases collect oil, bacteria, and dead skin. Change them weekly—or more often if you have oily skin. Silk pillowcases are a great option for reducing friction and irritation.

💧 Stay Hydrated

Drinking around 2 liters of water daily helps flush toxins and supports your skin’s natural barrier.

Scott's Thoughts:

  • I remember how bad I had acne as a youngster. Always worse in the summer. I had a part time job at a fast food restaurant and all that cooking oil combined with me sweating profusely made for a lot of acne issues. I think it even effected my self esteem as I remember being called zit face. Sure could have used some of these tips back then.
