The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Roanoke, Lynchburg and New River Valley areas.
From ABC13 - WSET meteorologist Thomas Battle:
The atmosphere is prepping for another winter storm moving in quickly for Tuesday.
Temperatures will be dropping back down to freezing overnight, which will be perfect for snow to start accumulating as it falls after midnight.
The snow will fall throughout the morning Tuesday, with a couple of inches of snow possible for everyone.
It looks like we should be switching over to an icy mix though as the temperatures try to rebound. This is where the danger will lie as we see very little time to get rid of the ice or snow.
A wintry mix will linger into the evening too, and fall on top of the freshly fallen snow. This will make for crunchy snow to wake up to on Wednesday morning.
This storm system will then shift to a mix or just rain as we get into Wednesday. This also means we'll start to watch for flooding issues later in the week as temperatures rise and rain keeps melting the snow.Ā
