Some dogs just love to hop on into the car and get on the road!
But others can get stressed out in a vehicle, especially if everyone's all packed and ready to start a long road trip.
Turns out, there’s an easy way to relieve your dog’s stress in the car...a little music.
According to a recent survey, two-thirds of dog owners say their pets get stressed out on car rides.
That’s particularly bad for the 75% of people who plan to take their pet with them on their next vacation, with 72% taking these trips by car.
Sam Sutton, senior lecturer of music at the University of West London, says the right music can go a long way toward easing your dog’s stress.
“A recent research study from the University of Glasgow suggests music can indeed affect dogs’ behavior,” Sutton says in a statement.
Sutton has prepared what he calls the "perfect playlist" to help soothe your dog’s nerves, noting, “reggae and soft rock appear to have been the canine tunes of choice.”
The top songs to play to calm your dog while traveling include:
- “How Deep Is Your Love” – Bee Gees
- “No Woman No Cry” – Bob Marley
- “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You” – Bryan Adams
- “I Want to Know What Love Is” – Foreigner
- “Dark Side of The Moon” – Pink Floyd
- “One In 10” – UB40
- “Hounds of Love” – Kate Bush
- “Desperado” – The Eagles
- “Many Rivers to Cross” – Jimmy Cliff
- “Love is King” – Sade
On the other hand, these songs should be avoided:
- “Back In Black” – AC/DC
- “Enter Sandman” – Metallica (sorry Va Tech fans!)
- “Ace of Spades” – Motorhead
- “Black Dog” – Led Zeppelin
- “Paranoid” – Black Sabbath
- “Runnin’ with the Devil” – Van Halen
