A woman who graduated from Brookville High School in 1976 says she can finally sleep at night after bringing an overdue library book back to the school nearly 50 years after it was checked out.
In 1974, Vickie Bomar Noell checked out a book, called California Gold Days by Helen Bauer, but forgot to return it.
Noell's daughter, Casey Templeton, says that for all these years, the overdue book has been on her mother's conscience.
The book continued to resurface every time Noell moved and the family always intended to return it, but it was quickly forgotten again as other things in life came up.
That is, until last week.
Noell was traveling to Lynchburg for work and used the trip as a chance to finally set things right.
She was able to walk through what she called the "nearly unchanged hallways" of Brookville High School and straight to the library counter to slide California Gold Days back to the librarian...just 48 years late.
