Winter Storm Warning in Effect for Roanoke/Lynchburg Areas, 3-6" Expected

3:30 pm update from Chief Meteorologist George Flickinger WSET:

-The storm is arriving later. Most locations won't see any significant snow until after midnight.

-Because the timing is later, this means snow will continue after sunrise.

-And because snow is falling after sunrise and possibly toward Noon, snow totals are lower, especially east.

-The Rivermont, Boonsboro and Forest parts of Lynchburg should have slightly more snow than Campbell county.

-I'm not optimistic about snow for Danville and South Boston-- too warm. You will have a wintry mix including just rain.

-Except for the mountains, high temperatures reach the upper 30s and lower 40s on Sunday afternoon.

-Worst time to drive: anytime before Sunday Noon. Main roads should be slippery though passable during afternoon, depending on how much they've been plowed.

-Refreezing Sunday night and Monday morning. Frigid! Lows near 15. Very slippery neighborhoods.

-Widespread school cancellations are likely Monday morning.
