"Kissing Bug" - Potentially Deadly - Seen in Timberlake This Week

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report the first confirmed identification of a "kissing bug" in Delaware.

The case first came to the attention of Delaware health and agriculture officials in July of last year when a child was bitten on her face while watching television.

The parents took the child to seek medical attention out of concern about possible disease transmission.

The insect was sent to the CDC, which confirmed it was in fact Triatoma sanguisuga, otherwise known as a "kissing bug."

The CDC says Triatomines are blood-sucking insects which feed on animals and humans alike, with a predisposition for biting the faces of humans.
