Teenager Fatally Shot While Trying to Sell Xbox

A 16-year-old boy trying to sell his Xbox was fatally shot in front of his own father in Gary, Indiana, Wednesday night, authorities said.

Johnny Peluyra, 16, was driven to the deal in Gary, Indiana, by his father from Merrillville after the teenager arranged to sell his Xbox to two men he met using the online sales app, Offerup. The Gary Police Department says the boy was shot around 6:05 pm Wednesday night near 51st Avenue and Maryland Street in Gary. Police said Johnny met two people near an abandoned home around Gary and when one of the men took out a semi-automatic pistol from his waist-band, Johnny turned to run back to the car where his father was waiting. That's when the 16-year-old was shot in the back.

He died only a few minutes later. His father was not injured in the shooting.

Gary police described the suspects as two men in the early teens to late 20s who are known in the area. One suspect was wearing a black hoodie while the other wore a gray hoodie. Both men were wearing basketball-style shorts.

"They killed my son over nothing," Kelly Arroyo, the victim's mother told ABC7 Chicago. "They didn't even get the gaming system. They didn't even get the Xbox so why did they have to shoot him?"

Anyone who may have information about the shooting is being urged to call the Gary police department at (219) 755-3852 or the crime tip line at (866) 274-6347.

"I hope you feel the pain that I feel right now," she added. "I want you to live with this the rest of your life."
