Man Hospitalized in Roanoke Officer-Involved Shooting, VSP Investigating

ROANOKE, Va. (WSET) — Virginia State Police is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Roanoke on Wednesday morning.

At approximately 7:19 a.m., Roanoke Police were notified of a disorder in the 3700 block of Stratford Park Drive SW.

One officer responded to the scene and found an agitated man outside on a sidewalk in the area.

RPD says the officer attempted to talk to the man, but the man became more aggressive and made several threats to “kill” the officer.

The man allegedly pulled out a knife and began moving towards the officer, who continually attempts to verbally de-escalate the situation while backing away from the suspect.

As the man continued moving towards the officer, the officer fired one shot from his service handgun, hitting the man.

Roanoke Fire-EMS took the man to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment, but the condition of the suspect is unknown.

No Roanoke Police officers were injured in the incident.
