Gov. Ralph Northam has announced new capacity guidelines for entertainment and sports venues starting April 1.
Northam says with new COVID-19 cases in Virginia plateauing and with 25% of the state's residents having had a least one dose of vaccine, social gathering and event capacities can be moderately increased.
For social gatherings, including wedding venues, indoor gatherings will be increased to 50 people and outdoors increased to 100.
For entertainment venues, indoor sites may operate at 30% capacity up to 500 people. Outdoor venues can operate at 30% capacity without a numerical cap.
For recreational sports, indoor events will be limited to 30% capacity up to 100 people and outdoor events limited to 30% capacity up to 500 people.
The Governor had announced last week that outdoor graduation ceremonies will be allowed at 30% capacity with up to 5,000 people, while indoor ceremonies will be allowed 30% capacity up to 500 people.
Northam says masks and social distancing are still required at all of these events.
Between 50,000 and 70,000 Virginians are being vaccinated each day. State Health Commissioner Dr. Norm Oliver says community organizations are working with minority and vulnerable populations to help with information, vaccine appointment sign-ups, and transportation.
Northam says that about 80% of Virginia's teachers have been vaccinated.
