Governor Says Virginia Will Not Move Into Phase 3 This Week

Governor Ralph Northam says the state's coronavirus numbers continue to look favorable as the total number of new cases and the number of hospitalizations continue on a downward trend.

However, Northam says Virginia will not be moving into Phase 3 of business openings just yet. He says he needs more time to look at the metrics.

An announcement about what Phase 3 will look like is expected on Thursday.

In the meantime, the governor urges Virginians to continue to abide by social distancing and face covering guidelines.

Northam, who was joined at his news conference this afternoon by musical artist Pharrell, a native of Virginia Beach, announced that he is proposing legislation to make Juneteenth a state hoiday.

The Governor also announced two new business ventures in the state, one in Henrico county which will create 700 new jobs and one in Newport News that will create 300 new jobs.
