Bedford County man pleads guilty to rape, gets sentenced to jail

A Bedford County man has pleaded guilty to rape a year after a woman came forward with accusations.

Joshua Adam Caudill was originally charged with one count of rape and one count of object sexual penetration. Under terms of a plea agreement, Caudill pleaded guilty to the rape charge and the object sexual penetration charge was dropped.

The Bedford County Commonwealth's Attorney said the 28-year-old was sentenced to 20 years in prison, with time suspended after serving seven years, six months.

When he's released, Caudill will be on 10 years of good behavior and on active supervised probation for four years.

He's also been ordered to not have contact with the victim, be subject to a sex offender evaluation, complete any sex offender treatment ordered by his probation officer, and to register as a violent sex offender as required by law.

Caudill was arrested in July 2018.

The Bedford County Sheriff's Office said Caudill and the victim knew each other.
