FIRE: Docks of Virginia Dare

A fire broke out this morning at the docks of the Virginia Dare, the Smith Mountain Lake cruise vessel.

Bedford County reports the fire broke out around 3:45 AM. When they arrived, the main building and the docks were on fire. Crews were able to put the fire out. There are no initial reports of injury.

The Virginia Dare was not damaged in the fire..

First arriving units found the main office/restaurant lounge was well involved with fire. SML Fire Boat 11-6 initiated fire suppression with the deluge monitor as land based units stretched hand-lines and established a elevated water attack using an aerial apparatus. Volunteers spent several hours on scene bringing the blaze under control. The scene has been turned over to the Bedford County Fire-Rescue Fire Marshal’s Division for Investigation.
